Tiffany Bowling
Engineer

For Tiffany Bowling, engineering is a family affair. Her grandfather was an engineer for the railroads and her dad is a civil engineer. She credits her career to her father.
"I started college as an elementary education major," she said. "One day my dad took me out to one of his work sites and I realized that's what I wanted to do. I really loved the math aspect of the job."
She received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno and began working for a private consulting firm doing land development.
"One of the things I really enjoyed doing in land development was working on the water system designs," she said.
That interest eventually led her to TMWA. At 30, Tiffany is the youngest engineer employed at TMWA. She spends most of her time working with engineering firms on water system designs for new subdivision and commercial projects. She also works on the Sparks gravity system.
"I like the interaction with the public and other engineering firms. I just like dealing with different people on a day-to-day basis."
She also enjoys interacting with her co-workers. In April of 2006 she took over organizing the TMWA team for Corporate Challenge. Corporate Challenge, sponsored by the City of Reno, is a two-week competition among local businesses. Activities range from bowling to basketball to mountain biking and everything in between. This year, TMWA won its division for the second year in a row.
"As much as we say each year that this is for fun, it's really the competition I enjoy the most," Tiffany admitted.
And she is competitive. When the tug-of-war team was short one girl, the flip-flop clad Tiffany used a pair of gloves for socks and borrowed a pair of cleats to help the team out.
"That was an interesting experience," she said.
Tiffany, who played basketball and soccer in high school, also competed in track-and-field, Pictionary, basketball, horseshoes, and softball for the TMWA team.
"It's great getting to hang out with people you work with in a non-work related environment," she said.
When she's not working and playing sports, Tiffany spends her free time skiing, camping and knitting with friends.
