Water Resources
The Truckee River winds down from Lake Tahoe on a 100-mile route through Sierra mountain canyons, past the communities of Reno and Sparks, and finally carves through the high desert into Pyramid Lake. The river is the lifeblood of civilization in the Truckee Meadows, supplying 85 percent of the water consumed. TMWA customers reap the benefit of the cold water source at Lake Tahoe and state-of-the-art treatment plants, receiving some of the purest water in the country.
Managing this precious resource is vital to sustaining a healthy community in the Truckee Meadows. The Water Resources Department at TMWA is dedicated to securing our water supply for current and future needs.
