TMWA Tours and Workshops

This one-hour workshop provides an overview of starting sprinkler and drip systems for the typical residential home. The session is best suited for persons who have never, or seldom, worked with their sprinkler systems and wish to gain a basic understanding of components, settings and adjustments in a typical system. There will also be coverage of how to identify damaged or poorly-adjusted parts. Attendees must be a minimum of 10 years of age.

Come learn how to plan and design a water effective home landscape. Learn how to create a site analysis diagram of your home grounds, develop a program of your needs and desires, and then put this information together to create a conceptual landscape plan for your garden.

The River-Friendly Landscaping workshop provides landscaping principles and practices that help to keep water and nutrients on the landscape, and out of the Truckee River. The workshop outlines easy steps for creating healthy landscapes while protecting the environment and local watershed.

Join Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) for “From Tahoe To Tap—Understanding Your Drinking Water.” TMWA’s water quality experts will present the rigorous regulations and treatment procedures your water goes through prior to reaching your tap. This workshop includes a tour of the Chalk Bluff Water Treatment Plant where staff will explain the water treatment and distribution process, as well as answer your questions.

TMWA’s event recognizes, and coincides with, National Drinking Water Week in May, which celebrates the value of water by highlighting the critical role it plays in the quality of our daily lives.

The workshop is free and open to TMWA customers.

TMWA’s Tree Care workshop will be led by arborist Dale Carlon and cover the following topics:

  • Choosing the right tree for the site
  • Selecting healthy trees at the nursery
  • Installing drip irrigation correctly for new and mature trees
  • Trimming young trees
  • Hiring an Arborist to care for your mature trees

The Watershed Warrior workshop guides attendees through the myriad of challenges facing the Truckee River. The session covers sources of pollution that can reach the river, water conservation and outlines solutions to protect and preserve the Truckee River for future generations.

Come see how your lawn can be converted to a more bio-diverse garden that will help our honey bees, Monarch Butterflies and other important urban wildlife. University Ridge and Valley Wood Park are managed by the City of Reno Parks Division. The tour will be lead by the designer and builder of the garden, Tom Stille, Landscape Architect  owner of Interpretive Gardens, Inc.

Every Wednesday in September, customers can tour the Verdi Hydroelectric Power Plant, which has been producing clean, renewable energy for 100 years.  The tours are open to all TMWA customers.  Participants must be at least 18 years of age.

Each tour is limited to 20 people.

Take a tour of TMWA’s Chalk Bluff Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday, September 6 at 1:00 p.m. Lake Tahoe is an excellent source of water and our team of highly skilled engineers, scientists and operators use this source water to provide you with high-quality drinking water.  Our expert staff will explain the water treatment and distribution processes, as well as discuss current challenges and answer your questions.

The tours are open to all TMWA customers.  Participants must be at least 18 years of age.  Please email presentations@tmwa.com or call 834-8290 to reserve your spot.  Each tour is limited to 20 people.  Please note:  these are lengthy walking tours and will involve climbing a significant number of stairs and walking on even surface
