Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) will hold a public workshop on Thursday, November 8 to receive input regarding its plan to change the purpose of the meter retrofit fee. TMWA’s meter retrofit fee is collected from new developments and used to pay for installing meters on older non-metered services. The goal of the fee was to improve water resource sustainability and promote the efficient use of water resources by allowing customers to track their water use through metering. There are very few nonmetered services remaining and TMWA will continue to install meters on them as requested. Going forward, however, TMWA believes it is prudent to continue to collect the fee from new development and use it for projects that enhance water resource sustainability and drought resiliency. TMWA also proposes to lower the fee from $1,830 to $1,600. Additionally, TMWA will provide a brief update regarding its water resource planning efforts.
