Going Beyond the Snowpack to Understand Our Region’s Water System
Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) invites you to attend Smart About Water Day. This community event will provide insight into the projects, plans and actions that contribute to the overall state of our water in the Truckee Meadows.
Smart About Water Day will be on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the California Building in Reno’s Idlewild Park. Our highly skilled staff of operators, scientists, and engineers will be there ready to answer any questions you have regarding water in the Truckee Meadows.
Drop in anytime to learn first-hand about water planning for growth and water resource management in the Truckee Meadows. Community partners from the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency, Truckee Meadows Flood Management Authority, The Nature Conservancy, Western Regional Water Commission, and Northern Nevada Water Planning Commission will be there as well to answer any water questions that you may have beyond drinking water.
With all this water expertise under one roof, it’s a great opportunity for families, too. Sierra Nevada Journeys will be on site with watershed activities for kids who can also become scientists for the day at TMWA’s interactive water-quality testing station. TMWA’s big rigs will also be on display, for kids to explore. In addition, tree tours will be scheduled all day featuring Idlewild Park’s beautiful trees and how to care for them.
If learning about our water system leaves you hungry, don’t worry; several local food trucks will be on site serving an array of delicious cuisine and treats during the event.
“As our region continues to grow, TMWA recognizes the need to bring topics regarding our water resources directly to the community,” said Mark Foree, general manager of TMWA. “Smart About Water Day is a fun, interactive way to do just that, while enjoying one of Reno’s most beautiful urban parks.”
