This community event will provide insight into the projects\, plans and actions that contribute to the overall state of our water in the Truckee Meadows. \nSmart About Water Day will be on Saturday\, October 21 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Lazy 5 Regional Park in Spanish Springs. Drop in anytime. TMWA’s experts on water operations\, resources and planning will be available to answer any question you may have. In addition\, representatives from Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency and Western Regional Water Commission will be available. \n“As our region continues to grow\, TMWA recognizes the need to bring topics surrounding our water resources directly to the community\,” said Mark Foree\, general manager of TMWA. \nHere is what can be expected: \n\nThe Big Picture: Gain an understanding of the fascinating dynamics that take place at the intersection of population growth\, regional planning and our water supply under the Truckee River Operating Agreement (TROA).\nLarge Projects in 2018: Know what’s coming up to ensure long-term water service reliability\, including what might be in store for your neighborhood.\nFrom Surface to Ground: Examine approaches for aquifer recharge\, and the impact it has had on water table levels in 2017.\nNew Uses for Recycled Water: Review ways to make the most of recycled water\, including innovative research that is underway.\nFor Inquisitive Minds: Listen into a series of topic presentations in an interactive\, casual format. SUMMARY:World Water Monitoring Day 2017
DESCRIPTION:World Water Monitoring Challenge™ (WWMC) is an international education and outreach program that builds public awareness and involvement in protecting water resources around the world by engaging citizens to conduct basic monitoring of their local waterbodies. \nWWMC grew out of the World Water Monitoring Day program in 2012. While an official “day” continues to be observed each year on September 18\, the broader “challenge” encourages people everywhere to test the quality of their waterways\, share their findings\, and protect our most precious resource. The program runs annually from March 22 (the United Nations World Water Day) until December 31. \nThe primary goal of World Water Monitoring Challenge is to educate and engage citizens in the protection of the world’s water resources. Many people are unaware of the impact their behaviors have on water quality. Conducting simple monitoring tests teaches participants about some of the most common indicators of water health and encourages further participation in more formal citizen monitoring efforts. \nMore Information: http://www.worldwatermonitoringday.org/
