Smart About Water Day promo image.

Plan to attend Smart About Water Day as Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) marks its 25th anniversary of managing our community’s critical municipal water resources. This free community event offers a unique opportunity to visit with dedicated professionals from water management organizations across the Truckee Meadows.

This family-friendly and interactive event will return to the California Building in Reno’s Idlewild Park on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Scientists, technicians, planning experts and environmental professionals will be available to answer any question attendees may have about regional water management and watershed protection.

This FREE event happens only ONE DAY each year!

Table topics and activities include:

  • Important events and investments made in the last 25 years to secure our water future
  • How water quality is continually assessed to ensure safe drinking water
  • How regional growth and climate variability factor into regional water resource planning
  • What programs and partnerships are in place to help protect the Truckee River watershed
  • How conservation works in our community
  • Advanced water purification treatment processing as a future water resource
  • Kids scavenger hunt and an activity corner with interactive science and fun
  • TMWA’s Big Rigs—inside and out!
  • Local food trucks for lunchtime

Exhibitors include Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency, OneWater Nevada, Nevada Water Innovation Institute, Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility, Truckee Meadows Regional Stormwater Committee, OneTruckeeRiver, Middle Truckee River Watershed Forest Partnership, The Nature Conservancy, Desert Research Institute, Sierra Nevada Journeys and Reno PBS.

Presentations are scheduled throughout the day with subject matter experts, starting at 10:30 a.m. Topics will include TMWA at 25 Years, Water Supply Outlook, TMWA’s 20-Year Water Facility Plan Update and exciting progress on the Advanced Purified Water Treatment Facility at American Flat.
