Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) is seeking public feedback on its Draft 2025-2045 Water Resource Plan (WRP). Two open houses are scheduled for June 11 at Sparks Library (1125 12th St., Sparks) and June 16 at South Valleys Library (15650 Wedge Pkwy., Reno) at 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
The Water Resource Plan is designed to give customers the big picture on how the community’s drinking water needs will be met for the next 20 years, and beyond. This plan also anticipates weather extremes and prolonged periods of drought.
“Updating the Water Resource Plan is an extensive process,” explained Kara Steeland, TMWA’s Senior Hydrologist and Watershed Coordinator. “A critical part of this process is engaging the community to gather feedback, address questions about the draft plan, and identify any additional concerns related to local water resources that may not yet be included.”
Since TMWA was founded in 2001, the WRP has been updated every five years. The purpose of this plan is to analyze future conditions and outline strategies to meet the region’s drinking water needs. TMWA’s planning process is essential in effectively managing water resources to provide a resilient and reliable supply for our community.
For those who can’t make one of the open house events, the Draft WRP is online to review. Feedback can be submitted by completing a brief form. Please keep in mind that the public comment period closes June 30, 2025. View DRAFT 2025-2045 Water Resource Plan and Provide feedback here.
