How To

Report Water Waste in Your Community

March 27, 2018

TMWA only patrols for water waste and enforces Assigned-day watering within its service territory.
Truckee Meadows Water Authority is serious about preventing water waste. You are the eyes of the community so we need your help. If you see water being wasted, please let us know by filling out the form below. A big part of our success in responding to water waste is very specific information concerning the time, day and location.

The goal of TMWA’s Conservation Department is to prevent water waste and to also prevent water from unnecessarily entering storm drains. Please remember that not watering on your assigned days is considered water waste. Our Rules (specifically Rule 2) allow us to charge penalties of up to $75.00 for repeated waste offenses.

If you see continued water waste after reporting it, one of the following explanations is likely:

  1. not enough information was provided, such as an exact address.
  2. a watering variance may have been granted.
  3. the area is not located in TMWA’s service territory.
  4. the property is watered with reclaimed water. (TMWA does not provide reclaimed water service; please contact City of Reno, City of Sparks or Washoe County for information.) To see a map showing areas where reclaimed water is used for irrigation, click here.

Report Water Waste

We allow water waste reports to remain anonymous; you are not required to leave your name and contact information. However, it is most helpful to us to be able to contact you should we need more information on the time, location, or type of water waste.
