Join us For a Fun Day of Learning About Water Resources in the Truckee Meadows!
Smart About Water Day, hosted by Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA), returns to the California Building at Idlewild Park on Saturday, May 10th. Drop in to this free community event anytime on from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Featuring the projects and plans that contribute to the overall state of water in the Truckee Meadows. The day is designed to be fun and interactive for the entire family.
Bring your questions about water management in our region and talk directly with experts from TMWA, Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency, Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility, Northern Nevada Water Planning Commission, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, OneWater Nevada, the Desert Research Institute and many other local agencies.
Presentations are scheduled throughout the day with subject matter experts, starting at 10:30 a.m. with Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency on Planning for Growth and Infrastructure. Other presentations include TMWA’s Water Supply Outlook, Long-Term Water Resource Planning and an Advanced Purified Water Update.
For kids, the day will feature a STEM-based scavenger hunt, opportunities to explore TMWA’s big rigs, and a chance to see DRI’s science-customized snow mobiles up close.
Informational tables at the event will address many topics, including:
- Climate variability and water supply management
- How treatment processes ensure the quality of your drinking water
- How our water supply stays resilient during drought cycles
- What is being done to protect the Truckee River in our region
- Plus, new local water lessons for educators (6-12)
