SAW DayCelebrate Water Stewardship at Smart About Water Day – May 10

Mark your calendars for TMWA’s annual Smart About Water Day on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the California Building in Idlewild Park, Reno. This free, family-friendly event brings together experts from Truckee Meadows Water Authority and partner organizations to share insights about our region’s most precious resource—water.

Enjoy fun, educational activities where you can learn about:

  • Water-efficient landscaping
  • Protecting and preserving our watershed
  • Making water safe to drink
  • Innovative ways to plan for future water needs
  • Exploring water recycling for potable reuse

Food trucks will be on-site, so you can grab a bite to eat and spend a great day by the Truckee River. Bring your questions and curiosity, and discover how we can all work together to protect and conserve our local water supply.

  1. Irrigation System Start-Up

    • Wednesday, April 9, 5:30–6:30 p.m.
    • Wednesday, April 16, 5:30–6:30 p.m. (Zoom-only)
      Get ready for the warmer months and learn how to safely start up your irrigation system. TMWA professionals will share best practices to help you avoid costly mistakes and use water efficiently.
  2. Water Supply Outlook (ZOOM)

    • Thursday, April 3, 1 p.m.–2 p.m.
      What do the recent snowpack measurements mean for our local water supply and for this summer’s irrigation season? Attend TMWA’s Water Supply Outlook on April 3 at 1:00 p.m. on Zoom and stay informed. Hear directly from Bill Hauck, TMWA’s Water Supply Supervisor, who will provide context on the current snowpack, report projected river flows and discuss TMWA’s integrated water management approach. Customers are encouraged to attend the 20-minute Zoom presentation followed by a question-and-answer session.
  3. Prescription Take Back Day

    • Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
      Help protect our water supply by safely disposing of unused or expired prescription medications. Numerous drop-off locations will be available throughout the community. Visit jtnn.org for details.

  1. From Tahoe to the Tap – Understanding Your Drinking Water

    • Wednesday, May 7, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
    • Glendale Water Treatment Plant (1205 S. 21st St., Sparks)
      Ever wondered how Lake Tahoe’s pristine waters end up flowing from your home faucets? Join this interactive workshop at the Glendale Water Treatment Plant for a behind-the-scenes look at the water treatment process and how TMWA ensures safe, reliable drinking water.
  2. Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) Great Community Clean Up Day

    • Saturday, May 3, 8 a.m.–noon
      Volunteer at one of over 20 beautification and cleanup sites across our community to keep our region looking its best. Sign up at ktmb.org.
  3. Workshop: Drip System Maintenance Made Easy

    • Thursday, May 21, 5:30–6:30 p.m.
      Discover the basics of drip irrigation, troubleshoot common issues, and learn maintenance tips to keep your system running efficiently all summer long.
  4. Workshop: Sprinkler Maintenance Made Easy

    • Wednesday, May 28, 5:30–6:30 p.m.
      Learn how to keep your lawn sprinkler system operating at peak performance, including tips on repairs, adjustments, and water-use efficiency.

Join TMWA this spring to gain practical tips on managing your home irrigation, discover new ways to conserve water, and contribute to a cleaner and healthier Truckee River watershed.
