FY 2025-26 closes at $4.38 million, the best year since tracking began in 2007
TMWA’s three hydroelectric plants generated $4,379,267 in gross revenue during fiscal year (FY) 2025-26, the highest annual total since tracking began in FY 2007-08. The year also produced 56,266 megawatt hours of electric power, edging past FY 2023-24 for the most the plants have delivered in a single year. Revenues have surpassed $4 million in each of the last three years.
ower is one of TMWA’s largest expenses, and hydroelectric generation currently offsets more than 50 percent of what the utility uses. Keeping TMWA’s hydro plants running takes focused work, as the facilities are more than 100 years old. The Fleish, Verdi and Washoe plants were built between 1904 and 1911.
Currently, several improvements for hese facilities are in motion. A rebuild of the Washoe plant is expected
to increase efficiency 25 to 30 percent and add roughly half a megawatt of production. Improvements for the Fleish Hydroelectric Plant include precast concrete-box culverts to replace wooden flume sections, offering significant long-term maintenance-cost savings. Finally, this year TMWA’s new Orr Ditch hydroelectric facility, will serve electricity directly to Chalk Bluff Water Treatment Plant, offsetting consumption from the power grid and lowering power costs.
Overall, hydroelectric operations support TMWA’s cost-reduction approach, helping keep rates as low as possible for our customers. Congratulations to TMWA’s Hydroelectric Team for another excellent year!
