Well Rehabilitation Activities at Lemmon Valley 7 Well
The intent of this notice is to provide information regarding planned well rehabilitation activities at Lemmon Valley Well 7, located at the north end of Swan Lake. Work will be conducted by Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) and Carson Pump. This work is essential preventative maintenance that will extend the life of the well, which supplies drinking water to your area.
Work will begin the week of April 18th and will take approximately 4-6 weeks from start to finish.
During well rehabilitation, TMWA will discharge 2-3 million gallons of water in total from the well into Swan Lake. This volume of water equates to a little over 1/100th of a foot of water on the surface of the lake over the course of 4-6 weeks. Washoe County and the City of Reno have been notified of the upcoming well-rehabilitation activities and discharge amounts. In addition, TMWA has an approved permit to discharge into Swan Lake from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, authorized under Permit No: NV0024031.
We recognize that the public may have concerns with discharging any water into Swan Lake. However, we have assessed lake levels and will not be discharging water into the lake if there is a predicted flooding event. Also, irrigation water is currently being pumped from Swan Lake to the American Flat Farm, which will remove much more water from the lake than the amount resulting from our discharge activities.
Your patience and understanding regarding this critical work are greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact TMWA hydrologist Lauren Jones with questions you may have about this project. ljones@tmwa.com.
